Some cats and dogs are more possessive and when newborns are introduced to the family, they lose the center of attention. Such a sense of deprivation makes cats and dogs see babies and children as their competition.

❌ Do not let children chase after your cats/dogs
Dogs generally like to play chase, but sudden chasing will frighten cats. Timid dogs also dislike the sudden activity.
❌ Do not let children forcefully hug your cats or dogs
Children may not be able to immediately observe, perceive the emotions, or gauge the preferences of cats and dogs. Incorrect postures can make cats and dogs feel uncomfortable, possibly causing the pets to flee every time it sees a child.
✅ Accompany children when playing with cats or dogs
Let children hold toys that the cats and dogs love. Trust may be built through the process of playing and cause dogs/cats to be less wary of children.
✅ Train children to take care of your pets together
To create a close relationship with the cats/dogs, start by teaching children how to take care of your pet’s basic needs. For example, providing clean drinking water, pouring out feed, or feeding meals… Cats/dogs will become more accustomed to living with children, and, moreover, children may even start to develop a sense of responsibility.
