Our Yorkie-Poo was on extended crate rest a while ago (and a couple of times since then) and we began to feed him wet food at that time. The vet mentioned a year or so ago that he was getting some tartar and he would probably need a scraping in the future. I dialed back the food a bit began to give him one of these after both daily meals. He often stops feeding early to come and collect his tendon, which helps control weight -- so important with a bad spine. Last month the groomer asked me if I had had a scraping done. She remembered I had mentioned he ate wet food and looked at his teeth just out of curiosity. Moose is 9 and she said she had never seen a dog with such good teeth at that age. The tendons are on the pricey side but such a high quality protein source and a scraping costs thousands. So we consider them a bargain.
My two dogs are a 40 pound cocker spaniel, a 16 pound maltipoo, and my sisters dog who came to visit for one day and ate the treat is a 6 pound chihuahua terrier mix. All dogs spend maybe 5 or less minutes with each stick on the day my sister's dog came to visit. This bag lasted less than a week. I gave my dogs 1 stick a day plus i gave my sisters dog 1 stick on that day she visted . I imagine there were maybe 10 sticks? So these dont last long because of the small quantity. Plus they are also as wide as two spaghetti sticks stuck side by side and are so thin they look transparent. They are not twisted but you can twist, knot, and shape how you want. Bottom line though is that my dogs went crazy for these. They were sooo into them. I liked them because they weren't as hard as a bone, pig ear, hide so I felt good about their gums weren't going to get hurt. Especially for my cocker because he doesnt have all his teeth. Yet they werent as soft as a bacon flavored dog jerky. So it did give them a challenge because they were long amd thin so they were trying to figure out how to chew them and they did and they enjoyed them very much. I wont buy again because they are so expensive for the amount you get.
My dogs loved these. They are the pliable turkey tendons, not dry like the superior farms. these are more like Free Range or Artvark/GoGo. They are not long lasting. These last maybe 2 minutes for my dachsunds. But they are good, tasty and fast enough they don't start fights.
My dog Chewbacca, Chewy for short, loves these. He is super smart and so well behaved, at least he was well behaved until he saw where I had these hidden! He doesn’t normally beg for anything but he started coming and scratching at my leg when I sat in a certain chair and I finally realized he wanted one of these since that’s where I sit to get them out. After I got him one I put the package in a box under some folded blankets so my husband and son wouldn’t give him all of them in two days (he may be slightly spoiled) lol. So about thirty seconds after I gave it to him it was devoured by this monstrous 11lb dog and then after a few minutes I noticed movement out of the corner of my eye and there was my little stinker w his nose under the blanket pulling the treats out and watching me while he tried to be all ninja sneaky. I punished him severely (by giving him another one). Anyway he loves these and he is a very picky little dog. Wish they weren’t so expensive! And to those complaining that they don't last long, who cares? If other dogs love them like Chewy does I'm sure that won't matter too much.
Several 1 star reviews are based on how long these last. They are a healthy, highly digestible, and very good quality snack. They do not last long but the ones that do are usually not so good for our pups! I hope they can lower the price a little bit, but either way I love this product! My boy demands one if not two everyday! If you love your pet but can only afford a little bit, then only give as a very special treat!
My dogs are rotten! Usually when I buy treats 1 or 2 out of 3 will like them, but these were loved by all, even the extremely picky Peewee! When you hand him anything food related, he doesn't take it right away. He makes us hold it while he tries to decide if he wants it. Not these!! These get rudely snatched from our hands and quickly disappear. My only wish is they would last longer, but there aren't many things my dogs like that do!!
